is originally from Houston but now lives in northern Montgomery
County near Lake Conroe. He has been paddling regularly on adventure
trips since college. He first started racing in 2005 with the
Junior Water Safari. Since then he has paddled in races across
Texas. Four times he has competed in the Texas Water Safari
in the Novice, Standard and twice in the Solo Unlimited classes.
Most recently, he competed in 2009's extreme low water year
as a solo unlimited paddler and finished 7th in his class and
20th overall. He has also finished the Colorado River 100 solo,

Through
these races his wife, Fayla, has been his team captain. His
mom has also be an essential part of the bank crew, taking care

Joe
started paddling recreationally long before entering his first
canoe race. Some of his first paddling experiences were near
his home town of Palacios, paddling on the Navidad River and
Lake Texana with alligators the size of his canoe. As other
paddlers sweat it out in the Texas heat, Joe fondly recalls
paddling on the Teton River in eastern Idaho in zero degree
weather looking for the best ice flow. He has competed in the
Texas Water Safari three times, first in 2001 as a Novice along
with his dad and brother. In 2005 they added a brother to the
team and paddled a 4-man unlimited. 2008 brought a 3rd place
standard finish when he teamed up with brother, Andrew. Joe
lives in San Antonio with his wife Farrah and kids, Lavelle,
Dane and Eden.

Ryan
Roye has been paddling for over two years. In 2008 he raced
with two friends in the Texas River Marathon and Barrier to
the Bay. In 2009, a grueling low water year, he finished the
Texas Water Safari and CR100 in the Solo Unlimited class. He
has also participated in the Texas River Marathon, San Marcos
Solo, Martindale Triathlon and Battle on the San Jacinto races.
Completing last years' Texas Water Safari would not have been
possible had it not been for the support of his Dad, Cynthia,
Mom, Scott, his sister Carly, Dave, Frank and the wisdom and
time of several Safari Veterans. Having paddled many of Texas'
rivers, Ryan prefers the San Marcos and Guadulupe because of
their tranquility and challenging terrain. Born in Lake Jackson,
he lives in Southwest Montgomery County.

Started
paddling in a SOT and did his first race with that kayak, Neches
river race in 2004. Bought a QCC700 kayak and did the Phatwater
race on Mississippi river, CR100 and several other races. Went
on to purchase a rainmaker and did his first Safari in 2007.
Later traded that boat for the Spencer Wave and did the 2009
Safari. He has done many other races across Texas but still
considers the Safari to be the race. Steve enjoys
many other outdoor activities and is really looking forward
to this years safari in a 6 man boat. After paddling solo in
every one of his previous races this years 6 boat is turning
out to be a blast.
